This film is a thought experiment. By this I mean it is a film that conveys a situation that allows the viewer to identify with the character temporarily and for that moment relinquish the notion of their permanent self over to the film. Using their imagination they allow themselves to slip out of control of themselves into the character they are closely watching. This is not gender specific even though Marion is female, in that moment of identification all coherency is abated and gender is lost. The editing process is a progressive move towards this displacement as the character loses control so too does the viewer. The move is from close up focused footage with wonderful romantic French jazz, canoting delicate control, to abruptly interjected landscape, subliminal horror shots ,erratic angles and eventually distopic form.
